Trump greenlights long-debated industrial access road in Alaska
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has instructed his administration to move forward with the long-disputed Ambler Road project in Alaska, according to a White House announcement on Monday.
As stated in an official summary, Trump approved an appeal from the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority, directing federal agencies to “promptly issue authorizations necessary” for the development of the Ambler Road Project.
“This project will provide road transportation access to the Ambler Mining District,” the statement said.
The document described the 211-mile (339-kilometer) route, which cuts through Alaskan wilderness, as being “in the public interest” due to its potential to improve access to critical domestic minerals such as copper, cobalt, gallium, and germanium.
The directive instructs the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, and the US Army Corps of Engineers to reissue permits required for construction.
Trump’s order reverses the 2024 decision by the Biden administration, which had previously blocked the project, saying it “ignored Alaska’s economic needs and national security imperatives.”
The White House also revealed a new partnership with mining company Trilogy Metals, investing $35.6 million to “support mining exploration” within the Ambler Mining District.
“This investment makes the US government a 10% shareholder in Trilogy Metals and includes warrants to purchase an additional 7.5% of the company,” the statement read.
Following the announcement, Trilogy Metals’ stock reportedly jumped about 170% in pre-market trading on Tuesday.
